Montevallo Outdoor Scholars Program

Steve Long is entering is 3r^d year as the Assistant Director of The President’s Outdoor Scholars Program at the University of Montevallo.
Long was also the University of Montevallo’s first ever head coach for the Shooting Sports Team.

Even though this is Long is in the early years as an employee of the University he has been involved the last eight years with hosting different students on different types of hunts. Through these hunts hosting students he knew he wanted to be a part of The Outdoor Scholar’s Program.  

Long has been involved in the outdoor industry over the last forty years as either a guide or working with a non-profit in the industry. He was a guide with Great Southern Outdoors located in Bullock County and worked with QDMA for five years as a Regional Director over the Southeast. His very first year with QDMA he was given the Regional Director of the Year award.  Through his tenure with these two businesses he has built a network of friends throughout the industry.

During his life, Long has been involved with several non-profits by raising money or volunteering his time. He served on the board for The Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch for five years and also helped raise money for the Ranch. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas Long works with Meals on Wheels distributing meals to the elderly and sick. He also has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, The NWTF, TFT, and Buckmaster’s Project Venison.

Long grew up in Montgomery AL and currently lives in Macon County AL. He attended Saint James High School in Montgomery and went to Auburn University in Montgomery for his college career. At Saint James Long, played Baseball and Football and at the same time he loved to fish and hunt, he has a passion for the outdoors.

Long also has an outdoor radio talk show for hunting and fishing called Cast & Blast Outdoors that broadcast across the state of Alabama on several stations. Cast & Blast has been on the air for 15 years and is the longest running outdoor show in the state.  Long has four sons, Steven, Ryan, Nick, and Alec.
